RHEUMATIC CONDITIONS
Rheumatic diseases affect your joints tendons, ligaments, bones, and muscles. Left untreated these conditions can lead to joint damage and severe pain. Common types of rheumatic conditions may include:
- Gout
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
- Spondyloarthropathies such as Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Scleroderma
- Sjogren's Syndrome
- Tendinitis
Rheumatic diseases develop when the immune system malfunctions and begins to attack the body's own tissues. It is unknown why this occurs but may be due to genetic or environmental factors. Symptoms of rheumatologic conditions most commonly include joint pain, fatigue, loss of motion in the affected joints and inflammation of the joints, among other symptoms, which only worsen over time.
Depending on the type of rheumatic disease you are diagnosed with, Dr Magashule may be able to assist in the management of your condition or refer you to a specialist rheumatologist for further treatment. Treatment may involve medications, regular exercise, dietary restrictions and stress management.
